Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
