Fans Urge Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are calling for that a person who breached a barrier and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was set to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned security officers at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the surprising bond between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and production design.
