Former Physician Faces Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a former physician now faces charges for performing assaults against 38 individuals who were under his care.
The Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Investigation
The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors said the forty-five charges he is charged with:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
Authorities have asked individuals with information to contact the relevant police force.
