No league promotes parity as effectively as the NFL: it’s the entire brand. However, after 10 weeks in this campaign, this doesn't represent a landscape featuring uniform distribution between the good, the bad and the mediocre. It’s one where the majority of teams appear to be fine.

Clear Picture in NFC

In the NFC, for the most part, the picture becomes more distinct. The Rams along with the Seahawks (both at 7-2) seem like the most balanced franchises across the league, and delivered blowout wins on Sunday. The Eagles with six wins even with their challenges continue to possess one of the most talented rosters throughout football, likewise with the Packers (5-2-1). Even the Lions (6-3 standing), with their fluctuating form on offense and defense while managing internal staff conflicts, have shown they can defeat good teams. For all five, one can readily envision a championship trajectory.

AFC Confusion

Over in the AFC, the playoff picture remains completely chaotic. The four teams leading their divisions at this stage: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (all standing at eight wins) and Steelers (5-4 record). Read that again. Not the Chiefs. Not the Bills. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. The usual contenders, supported by premier quarterback talent, have either significant personnel gaps or have been hit by injuries.

Competitive Balance System

From certain perspectives, this represents the NFL's perfect scenario. But watching this season's top AFC teams within the conference remains somewhat odd. Areas of each team pass the championship smell test, but not in their entirety. Squad Examinations

Indianapolis Outlook

Starting in Indianapolis, Daniel Jones hasn't descended to complete disaster level. However, recent performances have raised concerns. He's reverting to turning over the ball and failing against blitzes. He was sacked seven times facing Atlanta in the weekend game, and had a brief period in which he threw an interception and fumbled three times. This comes after he committed turnovers five separate times facing the Steelers.

The Colts’ offense thrived early in the season because Jones avoided game-changing errors. Yet Jones going back to his previous error-filled form would terminate postseason aspirations.

New England Patriots

New England appears relatively comparable. Last season, they were a punchline. Now, they’re the NFL's most pleasant shock and the strongest squad in the NFL following seven consecutive victories. If not for losing due to fumbles a winnable game against Pittsburgh, they’d be sitting nine wins, one loss with the best record. In the prior year, they were old and slow. Currently they're inexperienced, speedy and bold. However, we must acknowledge the ease of the Patriots' matchups. They've encountered the most manageable schedule across the NFL, and there have still been cracks. Drake Maye has taken sacks on 35 occasions – among the highest totals – and some of the shots he endured during the game proved brutal. As the season progresses, that punishment compounds.

Broncos Situation

Denver stands at also 8-2, yet it seems that they're barely surviving. The Denver signal-caller has been erratic, and the offense plodding, while the defensive unit provides most of the responsibility. Lacking competent QB performance, the Broncos won't frighten anyone in the postseason. This development isn't entirely shocking that Baltimore has closed the gap to just one game, but that it has arrived so quickly represents criticism toward Pittsburgh's fluctuating form. The fact Baltimore began the season 1-5 and currently seem they should win the division speaks volumes regarding the complete conference.

Traditional Powers

The Ravens represent a segment within a trio of powerhouses – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – fueled by former MVP signal-callers, who would still strike the greatest concern for opponents if they qualified. They’re the No One Wants To See ‘Em teams, yet Kansas City and Buffalo continue to self-destruct.

Buffalo Bills

Last week, the Bills felt confident following victory over Kansas City. During Sunday's action they experienced among the season's worst defeats of the season. They didn't merely fall against Miami; they looked terrible, dropping a 30-13 road game. The Dolphins secured their first triumph against Buffalo in several seasons.
