Intensive Russian Assaults Cut Electricity In Ukraine's Capital

Power facilities targeted in the region
Ukraine's power facilities have faced increased attacks in the past few days

Throughout the evening, Russian missile and drone strikes have led to blackouts in multiple districts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv.

A number of civilians were hurt while residents in the city's east were left without electricity and dealt with interruptions to water supplies, according to local authorities.

Simultaneously, a young boy was killed in a separate aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, as reported by local officials.

Moscow has intensified strikes on electrical systems over the last fortnight, while the country's government has requested "concrete actions" from partner nations to apply pressure on Russia.

"The necessity is not window dressing but firm measures - from the America, the EU and the G7 - in supplying defensive weapons and enforcing sanctions," was stated in a social media post.

Officials stated that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 missiles targeted Ukraine's energy infrastructure, labeling such assaults as "strategic and deliberate" and against "critical infrastructure" as winter approaches.

Energy officials said Russia was "conducting extensive attacks" and technical staff were working to repair systems.

A barrage of missiles damaged power facilities and residential structures in Kyiv.

Multiple people injured in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, according to local officials.

Regional authorities said the city came under heavy assaults during nighttime hours. A seven-year-old child died and multiple civilians were hurt.

The attacks come after periods of bombing campaigns in the area, parts of which are currently controlled by Russian forces.

All of Ukraine is on alert for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are harder to detect.

Authorities told reporters that Russia was purposely seeking to destroy the electrical infrastructure, with attacks already disrupting fuel infrastructure.

Officials stated technical personnel and government agencies were preparing for additional strikes.
