The President Invites Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to the White House

Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Reaction

Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to assist public safety in the capital.

Remembering Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to assist people.”

Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Measures and Government Revisions

Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.

The incident led the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor stated on television.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi told a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.

Memory of Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” he told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
