The Streaming Platform is Producing a Popular Game TV Series from the Creators of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The most recent Far Cry game that audiences experienced was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the antagonist, Antón, and was released back in October 6, 2021. As a series, it has a reputation for delighting in violence and mayhem with the same glee, all while weaving gripping, politically driven tales. It’s no surprise that FX's decision for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two creators whose work have embodied all of those things.
About the Series
Based on Ubisoft's popular video game franchise, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The anthology will also mirror the video games' format by having a fresh location and group of personalities in subsequent series.
Executive Team
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will act as showrunners on the series under their production banners, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be accompanied by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
“FX has had excellent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a collective six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are working together for Far Cry,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a news release. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is original, engrossing, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to appreciate our associates at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
Cast and Future Plans
Mac will also star in the show, but at the time of writing, we do not know what character that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was not long ago approved for another season, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the producer.
“Being able to collaborate with Noah Hawley is a dream realized,” said Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been incredibly supportive, trusting us with one of the most iconic video-game realms ever created. And throughout this process, my FX team always encourages me with their constant belief and backing.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game collection is that it’s an anthology show. Every title is a variation of a idea, the same way every series of Fargo is a adaptation on a theme,” explained Hawley. “To produce a big action show that can evolve from year to year, while always exploring the core of society through this multifaceted and unpredictable perspective, is a dream come true. I’m thrilled to partner with Rob and bring our shared bold, daring sensibility to the audience.”
A schedule for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has not been announced. The series will premiere on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
