This Special Release Pokémon Card Aims to Be Super Effective On Resellers
Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration is underway. Pokémon's creators and the Natural History Museum are opening a temporary store featuring special merchandise. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all inspired by the institution's theme. For collectors, however, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, given as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store is scheduled from on-site at the museum to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a much-awaited volume packed with stunning illustrations that show Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like what a Pokémon Professor might publish after adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched had the famous islands teemed with Pidgeys instead of birds. Part of the charm lies in the book's scholarly treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific inquiry. Writer Yoshinari Yonehara and artist Chihiro Kinoshita each possess doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.
Why This Special Card Stand Out
It is common to issue special edition promos celebrating big events or brand collaborations. Many such collector items often feature the famous electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new museum card however, is the distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements were not immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be highly restricted, and customers limited to only a single card with each transaction.
Limiting Speculator Activity
According to a company announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available outside the museum walls. But, a wider release is slated for specific stores in the United Kingdom. Importantly, fans cannot acquire the card through the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is a given, it appears they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities this time around. If you're feeling left out, there is the upcoming Pokémon Fossil exhibit coming to the Windy City in the coming months.
"All profits from purchases made in the museum store and from its web shop, which covers these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the research of hundreds of researchers who are scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," it says.
