This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
