World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB announced this marks the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
